Bidding:
a)
if you are going to attend the auction and bid in person
Please make sure that you register yourself as a bidder
preferably whilst you are viewing, (please make sure you
give us you complete postal address and telephone number,
so that we may send you regular updates and our catalogues.
)
You will then be given a Bidding Paddle and you are now
ready to bid in person- something you must do at least
once, if not every time!
The auctioneer will call out the lot numbers as given
in the catalogue and will call for bids, generally starting
at about half the lower estimate
When the Lot you are interested in is announced, raise
your paddle. The auctioneer will acknowledge you by calling
out your paddle number. Other parties interested in the
same Lot will bid 'against' you by the same means and
the bid price automatically increases by a prefixed amount.
If you wish to stop bidding, do not raise the paddle.
The auctioneer will continue to take increasing bids until
only one person is left.
This final bidder is the successful buyer. The auctioneer
indicates that the lot is sold by banging the gavel on
the rostrum and declaring the final hammer price along
with bidder number.
If bidding fails to reach the reserve (the minimum price
the seller is prepared to accept), the auctioneer will
still bang the gavel but will announce that the lot is
unsold.
It is actually great fun and the auctioneer will make
it very easy for you.
b) Absentee
bid
If you cannot attend the auction, you can also choose
to send in 'written bids or 'absentee bids'. Fill
in the absentee bid form, specifying your maximum bid
amount and send or email making sure that it gets to us
at least 2 hours before the start of the auction. Please
remember that the buyers premium and applicable sales
tax will be added to your bid price.
You can put in your top price in complete confidence.
Bowring's will undertake to buy the lot for you as cheaply
as possible.
c) Telephone
bid
If you cannot be physically present at the Sale room,
but would like to bid personally, we may be able to operate
a Telephone bid. However this is dependent upon the value
of the lots you are interested in.

Buyers Premium and Sales Tax
-
Buyers Premium and sales tax are levied on top of the final
bid price (the hammer price)
-
For auctions within India Buyers Premium is calculated on
each lot at 16.5% of the Hammer Price. These charges include
insurance whilst your property is in our care.
- Sales
tax varies according to the type of object and the state
that the auction is held in. The amount is added to the
total of the hammer price and the buyer's premium
